1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

“Bend down, O LORD, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need Your help.” (Psalm 86:1, NLT)(Zentangle(R)-inspired illustration by Jenn Webster)

We have all heard of one too many safety rules that have been uttered by our parents: “Stay away from the cord, or you’ll be electrocuted”, “Please look both ways before crossing the street”. In our later young adult years, we would still hear similar safety rules such as, “If you’ve been drinking, then you cannot get behind the wheel”, “If you are sick, then you need to stay home from school/work”. Now, even though we are now older, we are still bombarded by every safety rule from now until the end of our lives…
However, there are safety rules that should be followed, and those safety rules have been given to us by our Lord God; He created those rules, and those rules can be found within the pages of the Holy Bible. Those rules are meant to be followed if the person wants to give up his or her sinful lives and to live the lives worthy of the calling of Him, because after all, Jesus paid for their freedom from their sins by the precious blood that He has shed for each one of us. One of the safety rules that God urges that Christians must follow is to stay away from ALL sexual sin; By avoiding sexual sin, Christians should live pure and blameless lives. In the 4th chapter of 1 Thessalonians, vs. 3-8(NLT), the apostle Paul explains of this rule: “God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor-not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and His ways. Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives His Holy Spirit to you.”

Yes, my dearest friends, you have heard of God’s most important safety rule: If you do not live by the rules of the Lord, then you are rejecting no one but God, who gives His own Holy Spirit to you. God has called every one of us to live holy lives, and certainly NOT impure lives…But, if any of you have been living lives of nothing but uncertainty as well as impurity, and have been living lives of sin caused by your own doing, with things such as drugs, alcohol, gambling, pornography, and other sins, then I have good news for you: God loves you so very much, and He loves you so much, that He has decided to express His unending love for us by sending His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth, to be born from a virgin named Mary, to allow Himself to be whipped, beaten, and then become forced to carry the cross all the way to Calvary, where He was nailed to, suffering, bleeding, and then dying on that cross, all as a way for our Heavenly Father to save us by sending His Son to purchase our freedom by His shed blood on the cross…And then, three days later, God raised His only Son from the dead, defeating death as He went out of that tomb, so that all of us could very well have eternal life.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His blood.” (Romans 3:23-25, NLT) And so, my dearest friends, are you ready to give up on all your sins, and to ask Jesus Christ into your very own heart? Then I ask that you please pray this prayer with me: “Oh, Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am a sinner. I believe that You have died on the cross for my sins, and have been risen from the dead on the third day, defeating death so that I could have life eternal. I ask now that You please forgive me of all my sins, and please come into Your heart, so that I could follow You always as my personal Savior. I thank You so very much for sacrificing Yourself to save me. In Your holy & blessed name. Amen.”

If you have just prayed this prayer with me, then I would very much like to welcome you into the Family of God! Now, the very next thing that you need to do now that you have given your heart to Jesus would be to read the Bible, God’s most blessed Word, each and every day; Then, so that you could praise, worship, and thank our Heavenly Father for sending His Son to pay the ultimate price for you, then you need to go to a good, Christian church each and every Sunday. I hope as well as pray that that you make this decision of following Jesus today. Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this message today; Until the very next time, Lord willing, may God bless you ever so richly.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
